PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WPEC) - A speedy getaway after a gas station robbery may have been too "speedy" for a man in Port St. Lucie.

Police say a man with a pocket knife robbed a Speedway gas station on Bayshore Boulevard Saturday night. The man grabbed cash out of the cash register and ran off.

Investigators say the man then sped away in a red-and-white Ford Bronco.

Police received numerous 911 calls about a reckless driver in a Ford Bronco. Police said the driver evaded a Fort Pierce Police officer before getting onto Interstate 95.

Responding officers later saw a red-and-white Ford Bronco broken down on the side of the highway, near Gatlin Boulevard. The Bronco had overheated.

Authorities arrested 64-year-old Robert Hickey. Investigators say they found a knife and cash on him at the time of his arrest. The money matched the amount taken from the cash register.

Hickey is being held at the St. Lucie County Jail on a charge of robbery with a weapon. His bond is set at $200,000.
