Former Memphis Police officer arrested with car full of guns near White House

A man was arrested near the White House with guns, knives and brass knuckles in his car after he was caught urinating in public, according to reports from CNN.

CNN says that the man, later identified as Timothy Bates, 37, was caught urinating near17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. Secret Service officers then said they found nine guns, three knives, brass knuckles, suppressors and ammunition in his car.

Bates, who's from Tennessee, was a member of the Memphis Police Department until he retired in 2013. He became a member of the force in 2000, according to ABC7's Q McCray.

This all started at around 7:15 a.m. Monday, according to Secret Service.

Bates told Secret Service that he was going to the White House to talk with Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers.

He said he wanted"advice on missing paychecks and how to get the chip out of my head," according to the incident report, says CNN.

Bates was reportedly taken to a facility for mental observation and is facing several weapons charges.

Secret Service released the following statement on the incident:

"On 9/24/17 at approximately 7:15 am, Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers were approached by an individual at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave.
The encounter with the individual resulted in Secret Service Officers taking investigative action. The individual was arrested for possession of several firearms and was transported to MPD 2D for processing.
The investigation is ongoing. The Secret Service has no further comment."
