Report: New 'Veronica Mars' series headed to Hulu
(Circa) — A long time ago, Kristen Bell used to play a teenage private detective named Veronica Mars, and she may soon reprise the role.
According to Deadline, Bell and creator Rob Thomas are nearing a deal to produce an eight-episode limited series reviving the fan-favorite character for Hulu.
"Veronica Mars" ran for three seasons from 2004 to 2007, spanning the final years of the UPN network and the first year of the CW. The show featured Bell as the daughter of a former California sheriff who helped run his private investigation business while navigating high school as a social outcast. In the third season she moved on to college, caught a serial rapist, and solved a murder.
While the show never attracted a huge audience in its initial run, it developed enough of a following for Thomas and Bell to raise $10 million on Kickstarter to fund a feature film in 2013. Much of the original cast and some high-profile guest stars returned for the project, which was released in theaters in 2014.
The deal would reportedly enable Bell to continue working on NBC's "The Good Place," which is heading into its third season.
Thomas appeared to confirm the news Tuesday night, tweeting out a link to the Deadline story, but no official announcement has been made.
