Post Malone and Mark Ronson lead tributes to Lil Peep

(WENN) — Tributes have poured in for hip-hop star Lil Peep, who has died at the age of just 21.

Peep, real name Gustav Ahr, had been due to perform in Tucson, Arizona, on Wednesday night but fans reported that the concert was canceled due to a medical emergency and his friend, rap podcaster Adam Grandmaison, claimed on Twitter that the musician had been hospitalized due to a drug overdose.

A representative for the musician confirmed his death to The Guardian newspaper, while his manager, Chase Ortega,wrote on Twitter, "I've been expecting this call for a year. Mother f**k."

His lyrics and social media posts often referenced cocaine, ecstasy and Xanax use. In August he came out as bisexual.

The rapper and singer had won fans on social media and released his first full-length album earlier this year.

Actress Bella Thorne, who once dated the rapper, paid tribute to him in an emotional Instagram Stories video.

"To anybody out there who is a Lil Peep fan you guys know how talented he was," she told her followers on the social media site. How good he was. Well, he was even more f**king great as a person."

News of the rapper's death sparked an outpouring of grief from his fellow hip-hop musicians, with Post Malone particularly hard hit.

"In the short time that i knew you, you were a great friend to me and a great person," the "Rockstar" rapper wrote in a tweet alongside a picture of himself with Peep. "That included your music changed the world and it'll never be the same. i love you bud. forever."

Dutch electronic music star Marshmello revealed he and Lil Peep had plans to work together, writing, "I cant even believe this. We were just talking last week about working on a song together and now you're gone. You will be missed."

Other stars who paid tribute to the musician included Mark Ronson, Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz and Ty Dolla $ign.
