Big Little LiesTV shows(WENN) — Nicole Kidman has shot down fans' hopes for a "Big Little Lies" sequel, insisting there are "no prospects" right now.
The actress was part of the all-star cast of HBO's TV adaptation of Liane Moriarty's dark drama, but she cannot imagine a follow-up, and if there is one, she doesn't think her abused wife character will have a big part to play.
Talking with Ewan McGregor during a recent episode of Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, Kidman suggested that castmate Reese Witherspoon's hopes of a second season may amount to nothing.
"It was a book, so it was pretty finite," Kidman said. "We got the taste for it, so we're like, 'Oh, what a pity ...' You never know, you always hope, but there's no story, there's absolutely no prospects right now."
And, if the show does come back, Kidman is convinced Zoe Kravitz will lead the cast, as her character Bonnie deserves a bigger plot.
"The back story of Bonnie is complicated, and not fully explored, which is probably why we need to do a season two," Kidman previously told Entertainment Weekly. "It indicates that every woman is holding some sort of secret or damage or something, and that's not fully explored.
"We don't have any plans for a season two, but the beauty of this is there are so many deep stories here that are ripe for mining. There are so many different ways to go with all of these women. This is such a small portion of their lives, but I love that people have connected to them in such a deep way. And everyone in different ways to different women."
Author Moriarty has confirmed she's "coming up with some ideas" for how to continue her story after Witherspoon asked fans to lobby the writer on Facebook for another season.
The actress, Kidman, Moriarty and screenwriter David E. Kelley were among the hit drama's executive producers.
