Anthony Bourdain mourned by presidents, colleagues, and fans
WASHINGTON (Circa) — News of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain’s death shook social media users and two U.S. presidents Friday.
President Donald Trump offered condolences to Bourdain's family before leaving the White House for the G7 summit Friday. "I enjoyed his show. He was quite a character," Trump said.
Former President Barack Obama, who appeared on Bourdain's CNN travel show "Parts Unkown" in 2016, tweeted a photo from the episode and wrote, "He taught us about food — but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together."
CNN reported that Bourdain died while filming his show in Strasbourg, France. He was found unresponsive in a hotel room, and the cause of death is believed to be suicide.
Twitter users shared favorite quotes from the chef-turned-author-turned-TV-host and clips from his CNN series.
Many chefs, journalists, and travelers recalled how Bourdain’s work inspired them.
Some noted the proximity of his death from an apparent suicide to that of fashion designer Kate Spade earlier this week and the spotlight this week has shone on mental health.
Others retweeted Bourdain's final, and in retrospect somewhat haunting, tweet.
