Hit action thriller "24" is set to be revamped into a new prequel series.

Show creators Joel Surnow and Bob Cochran were previously reported to be working on a fresh take on the real-time drama, which initially starred Kiefer Sutherland as counter-terrorism expert Jack Bauer, and now it's been announced showrunner Howard Gordon will also return to take the show's lead character back to his roots.

The new 20th Century Fox project centers on Bauer's early years as an agent for America's Counter Terrorist Unit, according to Variety.

It's not yet known who will be stepping into Sutherland's shoes as the young Bauer.

Sutherland's original series ran from 2001 to 2010, with the show experiencing a brief revival in 2018, and a franchise reboot in 2017, when Corey Hawkins led the cast of spin-off show "24: Legacy" as a whole new character.
